31 January 2026 - Laurel and Hardy

I have taken some time out to enjoy some classic comedy, and there's nothing quite like Laurel and Hardy. These two actors set the standard, the first to ever look straight into the lens, some amazing songs that stick in the mind, but above all they are just so very funny. I have not laughed so hard in a long time.

Having now watched quite a bit of Laurel and Hardy, my thoughts are that this is without doubt the most successful comedy duo ever. Although there are examples of outstanding comedy duos, I don't think there is any competition at all that Laurel and Hardy are without doubt number one. Not only were the content outstanding, but it was slso clear that these two men actually got on really well, and I think that is the secret to their success. It was more than just a business partnership, it was friendship.

Thinking about the films, yes they had amazing shorts, such as the famous piano up the flight of steps, but also the awesome films, one of the best being the one set with the foreign legion.

Did you know that although Laurel acted as the dumb one, he was actually the brains behind the team and wrote and directed some of their work. Even after Hardy died, Laurel continued to write comedies, even though he was retired. He did not perform ever again after Hardy's death.

Although these shorts and films are very old, they are absolute classics and held my attention and made me wanting more.
