14 February 2026 - Sherlock Holmes

I have been doing a lot of driving recently and on long journeys I do enjoy listening to audiobooks. Currently I am working through the complete set of Sherlock Holmes stories. They are amazingly good and are highly recommended

Since starting my Sherlock Holmes audiobooks, I started watching the talented Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes, with the lovely Nigel Bruce as Doctor Watson. It's so amusing to watch these fiolms after listening to the audiobook, and although there has been adaptions from the books, there are still a pleasure.

After getting into films, I decided to investigate the TV episodes starring Jeremy Brett. I am slowly working my way through all of them now and so far, there hasn't been a single film, or TV episode that I didn't like!

Audiobooks are fantastic for long car journeys, but for me the best film Sherlock Holmes stories feature Basil Rathbone and the best TV shows feature Jeremy Brett. However, other actors have been good (I enjoyed Peter Cushing). What do you think, am I right?
