My first blog entry and I decided to write on something that I read recently that really amazed me. I was reading an article on a survey of the average British citizen as if astrology is a real science when compared to astronomy. Two thirds of people that answered said yes. They believe that the position of stars light years away from Earth affects their day to days lives. What was even more worrying, of those people that said it was a real science, 10% said they had consulted the stars before a big event in their lives and been influenced enough to change what they were going to do, for example there was one lady that cancelled her wedding because she was not suited to her future husband. She ended the relationship - incredible!

In the article there was an interview with an astrologer who was putting the case that it is a real science (they would, wouldn't they?) There case rested on the fact that astrology goes back thousands of years and that there are ancient texts describing it - therefore it must be true. I don't buy into that - there are ancient texts that say the world is flat and that if you sail to close to the edge you'll fall off - so, what's the difference?

I believe astrology is not a science. A real science has testable reproducible outcomes, whch astrology does not.
