Castrovalva

A good value boxset that unites a loose trilogy of stories. The first story, "The Keeper Of Trakken", tells of a living statue. In "Logopolis", Tom Baker’s final story in the title role, the Doctor battles both The Master, and the potential end of the Universe. Davison’s first full story though, "Castrovalva"", is the weakest link of the set. Again it features The Master, and it follows the newly regenerated Doctor as he heads for the supposedly peaceful retreat of the title, only to find that all isn’t as it seems.

FOUR TO DOOMSDAY

The Fifth Doctor (Peter Davison) discovers that his attempt to return Tegan (Janet Fielding) to Heathrow Airport has brought the Tardis to a spacecraft that appears abandoned at first, but actually carries a force of frog-like aliens that may challenge the future of humankind on Earth. Also featuring Nyssa (Sarah Sutton) and Adric (Matthew Waterhouse).

THE VISITATION

BLACK ORCHID

Arriving on Earth in 1925, the Doctor—after be mistaken for someone else—ends up having to play cricket for a local team. The travellers are then invited to a masked ball at the country home of Lord Cranleigh, where events take a sinister turn after a number of murders are committed.

EARTHSHOCK

The TARDIS arrives in the 26th Century in a cave system containing numerous dinosaur fossils. The Doctor's Party comes under suspicion from a military force, led by Lieutenant Scott, who are investigating the disappearance of a group of palaeontologists and geologists. They are all then attacked by androids - the true culprits - under the control of the Cybermen. The Doctor manages to deactivate a bomb intended by the Cybermen to destroy an imminent peace conference. He then follows the bomb's activating signal to an approaching space freighter, commanded by captain Briggs, on board which it transpires that an army of Cybermen are concealed. An attempt by Adric to thwart the Cybermen's plans result in the freighter being inadvertently sent millions of years into the past, where it explodes and causes the extinction of the dinosaurs - and also the death of Adric

DOCTOR WHO - TIME-FLIGHT AND ARC OF INFINITY

Time-Flight

Two stories based around the character of Tegan, this union of Time-Flight and Arc of Infinity is an interesting double header for any Doctor Who enthusiast. Both stories see Peter Davison in the title role. Time-Flight's big selling point is Concorde, as the Doctor gets Tegan to Heathrow Airport, only to discover that the infamous supersonic jet is caught in a muddle with a time corridor. Arc of Infinity, meanwhile, takes the Doctor back into the midst of the Time Lords, only to discover that one of them has chosen him to be the victim of a strange creature. This creature can only survive by bonding with a Time Lord, and when the High Council of Time Lords rules that the Doctor has to be killed, the scene is set for an interesting mystery.

MAWDRYN UNDEAD (PART OF GUARDIAN TRILOGY)

The Black Guardian recruits a young man named Turlough to assassinate the Doctor. Although outwardly an ordinary pupil at a boys' private boarding school, Turlough is in fact an alien who believes that the Guardian will return him home if he succeeds.

TERMINUS (PART OF GUARDIAN TRILOGY)

The TARDIS attaches itself to a space liner after Turlough, still under the Black Guardian's influence, damages its controls. The Doctor and Nyssa meet two space pirates, Kari and Olvir, who have come on board the liner in search of plunder, while Tegan and Turlough get lost in the infrastructure.

ENLIGHTENMENT (PART OF GUARDIAN TRILOGY)

The White Guardian warns of impending danger and directs the TARDIS to what appears to be an Edwardian sailing yacht, the SS Shadow, but is actually one of a number of spaceships taking part in a race through the solar system, the prize being Enlightenment.

RESURRECTION OF THE DALEKS

The Doctor Who adventure "Resurrection of the Daleks" marked the Doctor's first encounter with his most famous foe since 1979's "Destiny of the Daleks" five years earlier, and Peter Davison's only full-scale battle with the cybernetic aliens. Weakened by a Movellan virus the Daleks assault a space station prison where Davros is being held. The Daleks plan to use duplicates of the Doctor and his companions to assassinate leading Timelords, and further duplicates to take over the Earth. The action is split between the space station and abandoned London riverside warehouses, and is notable for its grim tone and high body count. The duplicate police-assassins recall the Autons from the Jon Pertwee "Spearhead from Space" (1970) and proved controversial on original broadcast.

THE CAVES OF ANOROZANI
