The original series kicked off in 1966 and ran through to 1969. In that short time it showed new Sci-Fi concepts that were way ahead of it's time (discs before the floppy disc was invented, mobile comms before the mobile or cordless phone to name just two). The series covered all the Sci-Fi topics listed opposite. The Next Generation came in 1987 through to 1994 and then there were DS-9 (1993-1999), Voyager (1995-2001), Enterprise (2001-2005) and a large number of feature films. STAR TREK XI
Both a prequel and a reboot, Star Trek introduces us to James T. Kirk, a sharp but aimless young man who's prodded by a Starfleet captain, Christopher Pike, to enlist and make a difference. At the Academy, Kirk runs afoul of a Vulcan commander named Spock, but their conflict has to take a back seat when Starfleet, including its new ship, the Enterprise, has to answer an emergency call from Vulcan. What follows is a stirring tale of genocide and revenge launched by a Romulan with a particular interest in Spock, and we get to see the familiar crew come together, including McCoy, Uhura, Sulu, Chekhov, and Scottie.

The Klingon heritage sub-plot that begins here and builds to the cliffhanger finale ("Redemption") would continue to the show's end and through into Worf' reappearance in Deep Space Nine. |
