Deathstalker 2 (1987)
Deathstalker is back—but this time, he’s trading brooding vengeance for cheeky charm. When a feisty seer named Reena ropes him into a quest, he soon learns she’s actually Princess Evie, deposed and replaced by a wicked clone conjured by the sorcerer Jarek and his sultry partner-in-evil, Sultana. The kingdom of Jzafir is under their thumb, and only Deathstalker’s blade (and wit) can set things right.
Together, the unlikely duo battles through enchanted forests, Amazonian warriors, and a parade of absurd villains, all while trading quips and dodging magical mayhem. It’s less grimdark and more grin-worthy, with the film leaning into parody and self-aware camp. Think sword fights, mud wrestling, and dialogue that knows exactly how over-the-top it is.
This sequel ditches the gritty tone of the original for a rollicking fantasy romp. John Terlesky steps into the role of Deathstalker with a smirk, and Monique Gabrielle doubles up as both the real princess and her evil twin. It’s a low-budget spectacle that embraces its limitations with gleeful abandon, earning cult status for its blend of fantasy, comedy, and unapologetic cheese.
